| The Turtles |
The cry can often be heard about Cypress Landing, "Are You a Turtle? " and the response will always be "You Bet Your Sweet Ass I am".
The Turtles are a loosely organized group of YC boaters interested in cruising. They don't go fast, nor in the words of one of our members, BJ Reckman, "turtles--they don't flock." They are more interested in the voyage rather than the destination. They have members who may travel along with them for a few days to points north or south and other members who will continue on their way for a month or more. Seldom do Turtles, when cruising, miss a cocktail hour where stories and perhaps a lie or two may be told. Most of them have had adventures and misadventures while cruising and no one is immune from being the butt of a good-natured joke at that nights entertainment.
Posted mid-Feb A meeting is planned for this group at 4 p.m. on January 30th in the Marina Lounge. Interested boaters are urged to attend or contact Doug Smith on 940-0204.
Posted 1/31/13 The
turtles are planning a trip North bound this spring 2013. Some of the Turtles are planning on going well into the Chesapeake, others are planning on
participating on shorter legs of the journey or leaving the group and exploring
such areas as Edenton etc. The group is in process of updating
their mailing list and organizing a notification process to other Turtles in an
effort to enjoy and use their boats more. The camaraderie of the Turtles is
important and the call of "Are you a Turtle" was often heard during their get together during our meeting. Follow up meetings and planning sessions are
being scheduled. |
